A rare Ray-Ban “Aviator” sunglasses featured the mirrored chrome lenses developed by Bausch Lomb during World War II. This particular set of lenses can give us an idea of when they were manufactured by BL at their US manufacturing plants, placing production of these Aviators immediately after World War II to the mid-1990s. circa 1950. Although identical sunglasses were used by pilots during the war, it is unlikely that this pair was used in wartime. For several reasons: first, the scopes do not have the typical government-issued War Department case that often accompanies wartime examples. , and, secondly, the incredible condition of this pair, truly a near-mint example. It would be almost impossible for a couple who attended the fight to be in such impeccable shape. Serious collectors of vintage Aviators look for glasses like these that are pristine and free of breaks, scratches, or imperfections in their mirror coating. This is one of the most sought after features and one collector once offered me over $800 for this vintage pair. However, my current asking price is $675, an incredible price for this kind of vintage rarity. *NOTE: In this listing, the line-by-line information provided for these sunglasses indicated that they were originally purchased in “”1960″” and, as noted above in this description, this pair was in fact purchased between 1947 and the mid-1950s. The oldest option offered was from 1960, and since I had to grab something, I chose to list it this year as it was the oldest option that I had. But remember: these Aviators are even 10-15 years older than that!
