Pierre Cardin Wool suit jacket

This rare and documented vintage Pierre Cardin costume from c. 1967 is made of a medium weight wool crepe in a dark tomato red and includes a jacket and matching skirt. The fit and workmanship are exquisite. The jacket features a clean, tailored fit with 2/3 sleeves, a single pocket with pronounced padded edges and a very distinctive asymmetric metal clasp closure . The skirt features a flared A-line cut that holds its shape beautifully and ends above the knee. It closes at the back with a hand-held zipper and metal hooks and eyelets. The jacket and the skirt are fully lined and finished by hand. There are various reference images with similar designs by Pierre Cardin from 1967 available via Pinterest, as well as an image showing designs from the Pierre Cardin Prêt-à-Porter “”Cosmocorps”” collection , 1967 in the book “”Pierre Cardin”” by Elisabeth Längle, Christian Brandstätter Verlag. A similar Pierre Cardin costume is kept in the permanent collection of the FIDM Museum, Los Angeles. CONDITION The costume is presented as excellent. The outer fabric is fresh with no marks, stains or damage except for a few minor snags as well as imperfections near the closure of the skirt. General scratches and discoloration of gold-tone metal closures. General signs of wear and age of jacket and skirt lining – minimal dirt after dry cleaning, small holes – nothing serious. Please see photos for more details. The hem of the skirt is supported by an additional lining . Its cotton thread seam has loosened over time and should be mended with a few easy stitches. As the costume would make a nice collection, we preferred to leave it as is in order to keep its original condition.
