1970’s OMEGA Constellation Chronometer Rare Vintage Mens Cal. 551 Watch – Stainless Steel Gorgeous Restored Condition – Fully Omega Today’s offering showcases this rather rare and interesting example of a ref. 167.015 vintage Constellation. Tonneau Constellations are one of the few that have a more rectangular dress watch appearance. It is fully Omega and presents in gorgeous restored condition. Our photos couldn’t begin to do it justice. It has a distinctive monococque – or one-piece – tonneau case and royal blue dial. Its monococque case, a less often seen design for a Constellation from the era, when new achieved high water resistance ratings by not having a separate case back. Powering the watch is Omega’s officially certified chronometer caliber 551 movement. Powering the watch is Omega’s top-tier caliber 551 with 24 jewels (seven more than in many similar Omega’s) and quick-setting date, one of the last superior 500’s series movements used before Omega began trying to reduce their costs. Omega’s 500 series was one of the finest mass produced automatics from the era. It has just finished a true expertly done restoration. It presents as just short of perfect mint with light signs of previous polishing to the back. On the wrist it presents as gorgeous mint. The dial has been meticulously restored – the printing could pass as Omega factory done to the naked eye. As part of the restoration the movement has been freshly fully overhauled by a Master Watchmaker. It is running very strong and true, keeping time essentially on par with a new Omega in our testing recording position. For the finishing touch we have installed a new leather band and aftermarket leather strap making it ready for immediate enjoyment. Our friend and Connie expert Desmond Guilfoyle did a wonderful brief post on this model on his Omega Constellation Collectors blog, the premier Connie blog resource.
