1954 OMEGA Constellation “”De Luxe”” Vintage Mens 18K Gold Watch – Box and Band Beautiful Original Condition with Box & Band – Classic & Very Collectable Today’s offering showcases this very collectable, classic and original ref. 2852 “”De Luxe”” dial Constellation complete box and original strap and buckle. This model was the successor to the ref. 2652 with the main difference being that it had the “”new”” upgraded 501 series movement which was much more efficient than the older hammer rotor winding cal. 354 which was the company’s first try at an automatic movement. This is an early 2852 made just after the transition to the new movement. The superior 500’s series were one of the finest extensively produced automatic movements ever made. They would become famous powering their flagship watch, the Constellation, and would be officially certified by the “”Control Official Suisse des Chronometers”” (Swiss watch governing body) as a chronometer, the highest honor given to a movement. Only a handful of years after Omega made this watch using the 500 series movements the company produced 20,000 Constellations in succession that all achieved chronometer status with no failures. Here are some of this watch’s features: Beautiful and very desirable untouched two-tone silver “”De Luxe”” dial Officially certified as a chronometer by the “”Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres”” (Swiss watch governing body), the highest distinction given to a watch based on its accuracy Long 50 hour running reserve keeps the watch consistently running, even when not worn daily Precision micrometer regulator for small timing adjustments Classic Constellation case with lyre lugs It has fully Omega parts down to the band and buckle – all are original except for the Omega crown which comes from a later period. Its very elegant 18K gold case presents nicely on the wrist. The back shows fairly light signs of previous polishing and the soft 18K gold is slightly pushed in around the center. The bezel retains a nice facet and its observatory logo on the back retains good detail. Its beautiful original and untouched De Luxe dial has only fairly light aging and has warmed to a light sepia tone, matching the gold and giving it a true vintage look. Its fine chronometer movement is clean. One of our Master Watchmakers has disassembled it down to its last screw and cleaned and oiled it. After seven decades it is still running extremely strong and true, keeping time essentially on par with a new Omega. Accompanying the watch are its original Omega band and buckle and Omega box. Note: The watch’s page on the Omega website can be found here. An example of this model resides in the Omega Museum in Switzerland, and a published example can be found in Marco Richon’s work, Omega: A Journey Through Time, 2007, pg. 367.
