Hamilton Silver watch

This is a rare vintage Hamilton KHAKI 30mm Women’s Black X Silver Watch. Hamilton Watch Company listened to customers and as they introduced their famous Khaki line they did so for women as well as men. The women’s Khaki model is 8587B. What makes this watch so rare is the fact that on the case back it reflects Lancaster, PA. Later 85878 watches reflect no location markings. In the mid-1970s as Hamilton became a part of Swatch Company. So this watch is rare in that it was designed for women and also in that it reflects the Lancaster PA markings. —————- Hamilton Watch Company ….. some history Hamilton is an American brand that embraces Swiss precision. The company has a long history of numerous milestones as well as powerful international recognition. What is now a part of the Swatch Group began in the US in 1892. In Lancaster, Pennsylvania, the original Hamilton factory stood for 111 years. In its early days, the company made watches for the modern American railroad. They crafted timepieces that help prevent and reduce accidents by synchronizing timing on the rails. By 1918, the age of aviation dawned. Hamilton then took their business to the skies by supplying the US Airmail service with their timepieces. Hamilton proudly designed and manufactured watches for the military from the 1940s forward. In the late 1960s, Hamilton collaborated with L.L. Bean for a co-branded military-type watch for the public. Later this co-branded version was shared with Orvis and Brookstone. The military field watches were at the forefront of what became their Khaki line of outdoor fashion watches. Many of the military design aspects carried over with the hackable time feature that allows the watch to be set while the second hand is stopped thus facilitating a more exact synchronization with actual time for the troops. Also carried over is the vintage look and durable case where the crown is protected. precise. In 1974, Swatch Group bought the company.
