Established in 2008, Hattingley Valley quickly became an exciting new English wine producer and very much one to watch. While the 11 hectare estate is planted with classic Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir, it also comprises a nursery with 3,000 vines of different grape varieties and rootstocks in order to determine the best matches of grape variety for the site. This great attention to detail also translates into the newly-built, eco-friendly winery, the first in the UK to use solar power and an innovative way of dealing with the winery’s effluent. Director and winemaker Emma Rice has been crowned UKVA Winemaker of the Year twice and her wines – which use a little barrel fermentation to add a rich creamy softness – have beaten world famous Champagnes in blind tasting competitions. The Classic Reserve NV is the perfect wine to understand the pure and lively style of the house. Notes of lemon sherbet, baked apple, creamy nougat and brioche define this cuvée.
