Tasting Notes 100 points “An astonishing effort from the Rothschild family the 2009 l’Evangile may be the reference point offering from this estate for decades to come.” – Wine Advocate This wine made the great Robert Parker question whether this is “The most profound l’Evangile ever made?” And it quite probably is judging by his perfect score. An eruption of blackberries Chambord pencil shavings truffles sandalwood milk chocolate cassis barbeque coals violets and roasted figs it has to be tasted to be believed. Château l’Evangile is one of the Pomerol’s oldest producers tracking its history back to 1741. It sits on a long strip of gravel in the south-eastern part of the appellation and is bordered by two illustrious neighbours in the form of Château Pétrus and Cheval Blanc. Acquired in 1990 by Domaines Barons de Rothschild it produces what is regularly one of Bordeaux’s most majestic and long-lived wines. Predominantly composed of the variety Merlot an addition of Cabernet Franc imparts structure and complexity to the wine which is aged in French oak for around 18 months before release. Make this wine the centrepiece of an unforgettable evening.
