<p>In 1946, Christian Dior opened his shop on Avenue Montaigne. The following year he presented his first collection, which was immediately crowned with success. The outfits show off the female silhouette to its very best advantage, by cinching in the waist and accentuating the hips. It was a brand new and very exciting development in the world of fashion and led to a special term being coined: &quot;<em>New Look</em>&quot;. Numerous renowned designers succeeded each other at the helm of Dior as creative director. <a href="/yves-saint-laurent/">Yves Saint Laurent</a>, Raf Simons, John Galliano: each brought his own individual contribution to the global aura of the French fashion house.</p>
<h2>A new era for Dior ready-to-wear.</h2>
<p>In 2016, Maria Grazia Chiuri took over the reins of the collections, as successor to Raf Simons. She was the very first woman to occupy the position for <a href="/journal/brand-story-dior/">the brand Dior</a>. A wind of change was blowing at Dior. The new creative director invented a modern, contemporary wardrobe which retained the innate magic embodied by the brand. She revisited the great classics of the House, but brought her innovative vision and female viewpoint to the task.</p>
