<h2>Hermès, distinguished watches for confident women.</h2>
<p>Before making a name for themselves in <a href="/women-bags/handbags/hermes/">handbags</a> and silk scarves, fashion house Hermès had already acquired a reputation in horse riding circles. And apparently the leap from stable hands to the hands of a watch is but a short one. As proven by the lines of Hermès ladies' watches, as elegant as they are timeless.</p>
<h2>Generation upon generation of talented artists.</h2>
<p>Once upon a time there were carriages on the streets of Paris. That is where, in 1837, it all began for a certain German native. Thierry Hermès had come to set up shop as a saddle and harness craftsman. The hugely evocative name has since crossed the centuries to become <a href="/vintage/hermes/">one of the most prestigious luxury brands</a> in the world. Working with leather in all its forms proved to come so naturally to this family that the horses very quickly left the stables to gallop far and wide. In 1912, we see young Jacqueline, great granddaughter of the illustrious founder, wearing a watch strap created especially for her. The seeds of the foray into watchmaking by Hermès had been sown.
Even in the very early days, this French brand partnered up with major manufacturers like Jaeger, Universal Genève and Vacheron Constantin. From clocks to wristwatches, from mechanical to quartz movements, a range of exceptional pieces appeared throughout the 1930's, thanks to the brand's uncompromising know-how. The Kelly, Médor and Rallye lines are just a few examples. In 1978, the happy hands of fate saw the brand's watchmaking talents exported to the heart of Switzerland where family heir Jean-Louis Dumas established the workshops of the Hermès watchmaking division. Today, the <a href="/journal/hermes-luxury-heritage/">House of Hermès</a> still moves with the times, undertaking bold collaborations. That's how the <a href="/women-accessories/watches/hermes/apple-watch-x-hermes-38mm/">Hermès Apple Watch</a> came into being in 2015.</p>
<h2>Equestrian vibes on your wrist.</h2>
<p>The evocative names of Hermès collections are a proud throwback to the origins of the carriage-drawn brand. The <strong>Tandem</strong> with its elegantly bevelled crystal, and the <strong>Sellier</strong> with its hands delicately attached to a saddle nail head, hold great appeal for ladies. The Harnais is reminiscent of the 19th century, with its round case and wide leather strap. Other series of statement Hermès pieces continued to appear. The <strong>Kelly</strong> is a tribute to the padlock on the eponymous bag, whilst the <strong>Cape Cod</strong> and the <strong>Clipper</strong> take inspiration from the ocean. The first represents the links of an anchor chain and the second a porthole window. No less sought-after, the <a href="/women-accessories/hermes/arceau/">Arceau leather model</a> conceals a patented mechanism, somewhat alleviating the passage of time. Despite the deliberately understated allure of Hermès watches, creative genius can be seen in the details.
